New Djibouti Spring Week
I will remember our 2026 spring season to be a windy one, and with varying temperatures.
I remember watching Windy every day a couple of times, just to make sure I would notice a change on time. The first day of a new fishing group began slowly, with the water feeling calm and unyielding, but as the hours passed, the ocean started to reveal its promise. We began to notice the baitfish gathering on the surface, swarming in massive bait balls, mostly fusiliers. This was the break we had been waiting for.
We quickly adjusted our approach, positioning ourselves around these schools, and that's when the action started. Out of nowhere, the first giant trevally launched itself from the depths, attacking the bait with the ferocity only this apex predator can possess. We managed to hook up, and the battle was on. The fight was intense, a perfect way to kick off the week, and it set the tone for what was to come.
For the remainder of the week, the fishing was marked by a rhythm of slow periods interspersed with bursts of good action. There were moments of anticipation when the water would go still, only to erupt again in excitement. These windows of activity were our best chances, and the results were there. We capitalized on the opportunities, catching good numbers of fish at the end, a variety, and unfortunately, again, we lost some big fish.
Until next time,
Tight lines,
