Djibouti Spring Season 2026 – New Week
Warm temperatures welcomed us on our third trip of the season, along with a favorable current that set the tone early. Our new guests from Thailand, joined by one angler from Germany, formed a truly unique and memorable group, bringing great energy and plenty of special moments out on the water.
We kicked things off with excellent action, as fish were both aggressive and abundant. While hookups came fast and often, almost too many to count, we unfortunately had a run of bad luck when it came to conversions, landing only a handful and losing all of the larger fish.
In the following days, activity remained promising, but shifting currents during daylight hours slowed things down. Bites became fewer, though still quality fish when they came. Success depended on precision, some days everything clicked, and others were a bit more challenging.
Despite this, the trip remained a strong one overall. Midway through the itinerary, the group decided to shift focus to reef species, targeting grouper, snapper, and even Napoleon wrasse on topwater. It proved to be a great call. We checked all the boxes—landing solid groupers on topwater, quality snappers, and even two Napoleon wrasse. For anglers willing to dedicate time to this elusive species, Djibouti continues to reward the effort.
During this reef-focused stretch, we also connected with several big fish, though once again losing more than a few—particularly some powerful GTs. Still, those who stayed committed to targeting GT were rewarded, landing two impressive fish over 30kg alongside a number of smaller ones.
All in all, a rewarding and memorable trip with a great group of anglers.
Until the next one.
