Djibouti Season Opener: Autumn 2025, First Trip Report

The first week of our Djibouti season opened with high expectations. After last year’s exceptional results, our team and guests arrived eager to see what this season would bring.

Following an intense summer, we anticipated that the shallower areas might show reduced activity, not just from GTs, but from other key species as well. This proved true early on, giving us a slower start that served a purpose: time for our anglers to adjust to heavy gear, fine-tune their technique, and prepare for the explosive action Djibouti is known for.

It didn’t take long. After two quiet days, the bite came alive and the chaos we’d been waiting for began. Jigging was the first to ignite, producing a strong mix of species including amberjack, trophy red mangrove snapper, groupers, and of course, solid GTs. Soon after, the topwater action erupted. Big fish started to rise, and a few made it to the boat, each one fueling our determination and confirming what we already suspected: a phenomenal week of fishing was underway.

Then came the shore sessions for GTs, and that’s when the real madness began. Our anglers could hardly believe what they were witnessing. Multiple fish between 10 and 30 kilograms were landed in a single session, and the action continued day after day, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

As a guide, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing an enthusiastic group connect with incredible fishing. When the energy of the anglers matches the intensity of the bite, it’s a rare and special experience. Afternoon jigging sessions maintained the momentum, with numerous fish in the 20 all the way up, close to 40-kilogram range and several unstoppable giants that put even our strongest setups to the test.

Djibouti continues to affirm its status as one of the premier Giant Trevally fisheries on the planet. While the average size here may not rival the giant GTs of Socotra, the numbers, variety, and pure fishing experience peppered with World Class Shore GT fishing, is something people will never forget.

With over 160 GTs landed between Socotra and Djibouti this week alone, Wild Sea Expedition proudly stands at the forefront of the global GT fishing scene. Our years of experience across the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea have shaped us into the specialized operation we are today, dedicated to pushing boundaries and making fishermen’s dreams a reality.
