The second week got off to a strong start, with Moucha Island producing several beautiful fish. From there, we moved to one of Djibouti’s top fishing grounds, where a GT took a popper on our very first drift.
As the week progressed, we shifted our focus towards shore fishing, as the guys were keen to experience the challenge of targeting giant trevally from the rocks. The action didn't disappoint, with diving poppers proving particularly effective throughout the sessions.
As the wind picked up, we had to adapt our approach, switching to slightly larger lures to maintain good swimming action and achieve the casting distance needed. The Lazart Salt Griffon Diving 230 proved to be the perfect choice for the conditions.
Landing a GT from the rocks is never straightforward. It takes the right positioning, quick reactions and plenty of determination. The guys put in the effort and were rewarded with an impressive number of landed fish and some memorable battles.
Whenever the tides allowed, we also managed to squeeze in a few jigging sessions, adding several smaller fish to the week's tally.
On our final morning, we hooked into a beautiful GT estimated at around 40 kg. Unfortunately, after a hard fight, it managed to throw the hook and escape. Not quite the ending we had hoped for, but that's part of the game!
All in all, it was a week built around shore fishing, with plenty of action, demanding fights and some fantastic fish along the way. Take a look through the photos below for a closer look at how the week unfolded.
