It was since a long time at Wild Sea we looked at Saudi Arabia wandering about fishing, actually since 2012 when we started operating in the Red Sea, but those years were a no-go since Saudi canceled tourist visas for foreigners, until the end of 2019, and then Covid came, delaying everything.

After having scratched the surface of this unique fishery in 2022, it’s useless to say our level of excitement was really high about the next Fly Fishing session, and since we already knew some tricks about the fishery and how to deal with it, the hype was even higher than high.

To end off an incredible week despite the weather , we embarked on one last mission East in search of Bohar snapper and big Geets.

With this week we can end the season Deep South in Sudan, where we will go from fishing atolls in the middle of the Red Sea to endless costal flats. This week we managed to find a good amount of fish on the flats giving the chance to have shots to every species, having also some heartbreaking moments with the permits and big geets.

Fourteen fabulous days, ferrying from island to island, flat to flat with a crew of hard working seaman, determined guides and six excited anglers seeking what the deep south of Sudan has to offer. We started the week fishing a small island for a day since in the afternoon we would sail towards the Deep South although that morning we had enough activity landing few triggers and finding a big amount of them on this tiny atoll, although we decided to spend more time looking for another bigger species on the reef.

've been dreaming of a saltwater fly fishing trip for many many years, but for different reasons in life, I could never make it happen. Then one day things started to fall into place, and I could start planning a trip some time ahead. Especially being a friend of Nicola Vitali the planning couldn't have been any easier. Well, at least easier on paper.

The first week of the season has been tough, both for weather and fish, even so we have had many opportunities and we landed a good number of fish, the windy conditions and high tide made more difficult to fish triggers, but as usual in the Deep South, we managed to catch a good number of them, including geets…

Our season 2023 started with a moderate north wind that turned into 30 knots of strong wind, and it was blowing that hard without slowing down for full three days.

The first week was followed still followed by some Monsoon wind that was slowing down, and the excitement to hit the water was at its peak! For a few days, the guys had to fish a sheltered area with the decent result.
